From Love, of Love, and for Love

My Lenten observance is rather light this year.  By that I mean I haven’t given up something that I notice it’s lack each of these 40 days of Lent. Nor have I taken on a daily commitment like praying a Rosary each day of Lent, nor have I committed to do daily acts of service in some form.

Rather I have decided to read two books this Lent for prayer and reflection.  The books I have chosen are Richard Rohr’s The Wisdom Pattern:Order, Disorder, Reorder and Dress Moser’s and Chuck DeGroat’s The Enneagram of Discernment (Type 9 Edition): The Way of Vocation, Wisdom, and Practice.

I am a Type 9 on the Enneagram — the peace maker.  While reading the latter book earlier this week, I cam crossed this quote from David G. Benner, “Created from love, of love, for love.  Our existence makes no sense apart from Divine Love.”

“We are created from love, of love, for love.  Our existence makes no sense apart from Divine Love.” — David G. Benner

That resonates deeply with my soul in these post-Covid 19 pandemic days as the world tries to put all the shutdowns and isolation and sorrow from those who’ve passed aside and get back to “normal”.  It resonates deeply with my soul in these post-Russian invasion of Ukraine.  It resonates deeply with my soul in these partisan polarized days of the United States.

For 2 millennia, the sign of the cross has been made by Christian faithful during prayer and worship to symbolize “In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”  Perhaps we’ve reached an era where that phraseology no longer has any meaning.  Perhaps, we’ve reached an era where we should return to the true meaning of the Trinity, “From love, of love, for love.”

In the eyes of some purists, my Lenten observance may be rather light this year, but it has taken me along the journey of re-awakening to the truth of Creation and the creator, “We are created from love, of love, for love.  Our existence makes no sense apart from Divine Love.”

How have I allowed that awareness of being created from love shape and form my words and actions and thoughts today?

How have I allowed that awareness of being created of love shape my actions today?

How have I allowed the awareness of being created for love motivate and inspire my words, thoughts and actions?

Simply, how have I grown in love?
