Pro Anima — Journeying With the Magi to Mardis Gras

It’s Epiphany, the wise men are here, the shepherds, the angels are hovering around the manger, I still haven’t got my Christmas cards all written and mailed.

The first card I wrote a few weeks ago was to a dear friend whose address is P.O. Box 1. If I were writing by sorted mailing address — the street or P.O. Box part of the address not city state or zip code — I am roughly up to 13.

I’ve decided I need more wisdom and epiphany in my life. We all need more wisdom in our life. So, I’ve invited the wise men and shepherds to stick around a little while, to not rush back to their flocks and homes.

I know man does not live by bread alone but there is no need for them to rush out of the house of bread -Bethlehem. Besides we got a new bread machine for Christmas — so they can chill out and relax and we can explore new recipes together while I pause and seek wisdom.

I have always thought it was rather schizophrenic or bi-polar at best that in the liturgical calendar we end the season of the Birth of the Christ only to wait a few weeks and go immediately into the season of remembering Jesus’ passion.

This year, Ash Wednesday is on February 17, so I have asked the wise men to stick around until Mardi Gras so I can have more time to complete my cards within the Christmas season.

If Christmas isn’t just one day, why should celebrating the manifestation of God to the magi, the kings, the wise men, the shepherds, the cosmos be just one day.
Let me know if you have anything you’d like to ask the magi I’m hosting until Mardi Gras. Maybe you have your own and should consider hosting them until then too.

I will share what wisdom I learn from mine.
