Pro Anima — And So the Work Begins in 2020

Today many of us will be returning to work from our Christmas and New Years vacation.

For those of us who worship in a liturgical fashion, we celebrate the Christmas season through January 6th — the 12th day of Christmas culminated by celebrating Epiphany, the theophany of God revealed when the Magi/Wise Men/Kings guided by that star visited the infant Jesus at the Nativity.

For some of us who celebrate Christmas, the 2019 holiday has come and gone and the Christmas tree and decorations have probably been taken down.

As I continue to celebrate this Christmas season up and through Epiphany, it has been an Advent of reflection and a Christmas of new revelations and awarenesses that continue to awe and inspire me as 2020 begins to unfold. I hope to post some of these and the questions they arouse in the coming days.

Howard Thurman has a wonderful poem that inspires and motivates the sojourner to continue the work of Christmas. It came to mind today as I and so many others return to work at my “day job”.

The Work of Christmas

When the song of the angels is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and the princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flock,
The work of Christmas begins:
To find the lost,
To heal the broken,
To feed the hungry,
To release the prisoner,
To rebuild the nations,
To bring peace among brothers,
To make music in the heart.

Howard Thurman

May you be inspired respond and act to find, heal, feed, release, rebuild, bring and make music in the heart the heart.
