On this day 41 years ago — August 26, 1978 — Albino Luciani was elected pope. His papacy would only last 33 days and we can only imagine the impact his papacy would have had with his unique charism of compassion and love of God’s children. One can only imagine what reforms he may have had without feeding the conspiracy theories fueled about his death because those in power in the church were threatened by his zeal.
